designingLULA: My Two Cents About Stuff

A Day Away with Flowers

Mar 13, 2014 | designingLULA

This past weekend I attended the 2014 Philadelphia Flower Show with my best friend, Anna. I love spending time with Anna. I love gardening/flowers. I love being inspired by others. I love ME time which is few and far between with my little ones running my schedule. It was a beautiful day out including the round trip walk from my house into the city to the Convention Center where the Flower Show is held annually.

The theme this year was Articulture: Where Art Meets Horticulture. It was inspiring to see all of the different interpretations of sculpture, paintings and creative ways of displaying the various flora. I took away a sense of awe from the enormity of some of the displays and beauty of the prize winning plants. Some I dug, some I didn’t but I respect the amount of time, energy and obsession it takes to create each piece of flora art or carefully grow each plant.

Here’s a little snippet of what I saw:

Just an interesting tidbit, the Bonzai tree is 100 years old and has been “in training” for 15 years. I have no idea what “in training” entails but anything that takes 15 years to do sounds more than intense. It was quite amazing to look at and brought up endless questions in my mind with the most obvious one being, how in the world do you transport something like that!

Inspiration can be found anywhere. Where are you getting yours?
