designingLULA: My Two Cents About Stuff

Hip, Hip, Hooray for My Home Office!

Office of theLULAdesignsA few weeks ago, I wrote about getting back to my fine arts roots and promised to post updates of my progress. Well, I haven’t picked up any pencils or charcoal yet, but I’m happy to report that I have picked up paint brushes. Not the fine arts kind; however, I’m counting it in the win column nonetheless.

I’ve been working on creating my home office. My very own, quiet, little space with a desk and everything. It’s been a number of years since I’ve had a dedicated work space. I’ve been rotating from the kitchen table, to the dining room table, to the couch, to the patio in our backyard during the warmer months, and then back around again. It’s been doable but so very far from ideal. I’ve been feeling like I need a space of my own for a long while now and the stars have aligned to make it happen.

So, yes, I’ve picked up paint brushes and have been happily piecing my new office together.

It has been a thrilling adventure in self evaluation as well as self indulgence, and it’s far from over. Life has a way of flying past, especially when there’s little ones involved. It’d been so long since I’ve had my own space that I forgot about the little things. I forgot what it was like to put something down, a piece of paper, a pen, anything, and know that it will be there, untouched, upon my return. I forgot what it was like to sit in an ergonomic chair and work at a desk.

Having a personal space is so very important to productivity, creativity, and growth. I’m only about half way through painting, decorating, and organizing my space. It’s a slow process that I’m reveling in. In addition to the desk, I envision a reading nook as well as a drawing corner. I’ll finally get to use my vintage drawing board that’s been stored in the basement for close to a decade. I can’t express how good it feels to finally give it home.

So hip, hip, hooray for my home office! I’m looking forward to its evolution and the new horizons it will help me achieve.

Have a home office? What does that look like for you? Office inspiration and life hacks are welcome and appreciated.
